Player Evaluation Overview by Brian Westbrook, NFL Alumni

As a former starting running back in the NFL as a 9-year veteran with over 6,000 yards rushing and nearly 4,000 receiving, I think I have a good ability to evaluate talent. After reviewing the interview and evaluating the results of Leroy Wilson Jr. from West Florida, I believe he has what it takes to play professional football as a running back in any system. Just as I was a small-school running back from Villanova (NCAA I-AA) at 5'11" - 200 lbs, I focused my strengths on being productive when given the chance. Leroy has a tremendous upside in productivity because based on his statistics, he averages 5.1 yards per carry.  Which means if you give him the ball twice, that's going to be a first down, which is evident in his highlight film featuring several dozen runs over 30-yards on each carry throughout the season.  Now that I am a current sports caster, I can see Leroy is a highly skilled runner with adequate size who can get what is blocked and create his own lanes based on the offensive lineman blocking.  Leroy does a nice job of spying second-level linebackers and making lane choices relative to where the defensive flow is headed.  Has a good burst ability turning his shoulder pads to get through tight spaces on the line of scrimmage and bursting to those long runs (as seen on his highlight film).  He can make the initial tackler miss and accelerates quickly to the open field.  In my years as a running back with the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers being a 2-time pro bowler, I believe Leroy when given the chance will be a valuable asset on the roster of any professional team and also a good commodity in the community to promote football to the youth with his engaging personality.  I can see him playing on all special teams at the pro level, CFL, NFL, XFL, and possibly as a starting running back if given that chance as a back-up running back or slot back in 3rd down situations.  Looking forward to seeing his development at the pro-level.
